ANNUAL COLORS

Expertise and experience…
Annuals are plants that complete their life cycle in one growing season. We work with you to select the annual colors that livens the landscape in each season of the year.
Annuals are sometimes categorized as cool- or warm-season. Cool-season annuals, such as geranium, petunia, and snapdragon, grow best when the temperatures are in the 70’s and 80’s during the day. Best flower production is in the spring and fall and flower production declines in the middle of a hot summer. Warm-season annuals, such as blue daze, four-o’clocks, and pentas perform well when the daytime temperatures are in the 80’s and 90’s and the nighttime temperatures are in the 60’s and 70’s.
Many annuals are limited to California, including: The California Gilia; Holocarpha virgata or yellowflower tarweed; Hesperolinon breweri or Brewer’s dwarf flax; and Navarretia prolifera or burr pincushionplant.
